I didn't touch the memory button. With the rear gate at the desired height, press and hold the power rear gate button on the inside edge of the rear gate until an electronic chirp is heard and the hazard warning. I also checked the owner's manual but cannot fix this issue at my own.

My 2014 impreza had the same issue the hatch button wouldn't cause the switch to open the hatch. Pull down the rear gate until it starts to close. When i press the power tailgate button to open the tailgate, it beeps 3 times quickly (and does not open).

Remove It And Manually Unlock The Rear Latch.
